About Bytewrench
A fast, private home for the small tools developers reach for every day.
Bytewrench started from a small annoyance. You're mid-task, you need to format a chunk of JSON or decode a token, so you search for it and land on a page that wants you to dismiss a cookie wall, dodge a newsletter pop-up, and paste your data into a box that quietly ships whatever you typed off to someone's server. For a password or an API response, that's the last thing you want.
So we built the opposite. Every tool here runs entirely in your browser. The JSON you format, the text you convert, the hash you generate — none of it is uploaded anywhere. There's no account to create, no paywall, and nothing standing between you and the tool. Open it, use it, close the tab.
What you'll find
There are 56+ tools and counting, grouped into categories like Encoders / Decoders, Formatters, Generators, Converters and more — formatters, converters, generators, encoders, and a handful of things that are just genuinely handy. We add tools when we (or someone who emails us) keep wishing one existed.
How it works
The whole site is a static, prerendered app. That means pages load quickly, the tools work even on a flaky connection, and there's no backend sitting between you and your data. Where a tool needs a heavier library — say, syntax highlighting or QR rendering — it loads on demand, so the rest of the site stays light.
Keeping Bytewrench free
Running a site like this isn't free. There's the domain, the hosting, and the occasional late night spent fixing something that broke. We'd rather be upfront about that than pretend the lights stay on by magic. To cover the costs, you may see the odd ad on the site. We'll keep them modest and out of your way — no pop-ups jumping in front of what you came to do.
What won't change is the rule that matters most: the data you put into a tool stays in your browser. No advertiser gets access to what you paste, type, or generate, because that data never reaches us in the first place. Ads help pay the bills; they don't get a say in how the tools treat your information.
On privacy
We measure how the site is used with privacy-respecting, consent-based analytics, and we keep outside scripts to a minimum. The content inside the tools never leaves your device — that part isn't up for negotiation. If you want the specifics, our privacy policy spells out exactly what we do and don't collect, in plain language rather than legalese.
Say hello
Found a bug, want a tool we don't have yet, or just have a suggestion? We read everything. Drop us a line at contact@bytewrench.tools or use the contact form. A surprising number of the tools here exist because someone asked.
