Privacy Policy

Bytewrench ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at bytewrench.tools (the "Site"), a free collection of browser-based developer tools. This policy explains what information we do and do not collect when you use the Site. We've designed Bytewrench to be private by default, so this policy is short on purpose.

The short version

Our tools run entirely in your browser. When you paste, type, upload, or generate data using a tool on this Site, that data is processed locally on your device and is not sent to or stored on our servers. We don't run accounts and we don't sell your data. We use Google Analytics to measure usage, but only after you accept analytics cookies — and the content you put into the tools is never sent to us.

Information processed inside your browser

The content you work with in our tools — for example JSON you format, text you convert, images you compress, or passwords you generate — stays on your device. It is held only in your browser's memory for as long as the tool needs it and is discarded when you close or reload the page. We never receive a copy of it.

Information stored locally on your device

To remember your preferences, some tools save small amounts of data in your browser's local storage. This includes your light/dark theme choice, your list of favorite tools, and your recently used tools. This information lives only on your device, is not transmitted to us, and can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser data. Aside from the optional analytics cookies described below (which load only if you accept), we do not use cookies for tracking.

The contact form

If you use our contact form or email us, we collect the information you choose to provide — typically your name, email address, and message — so that we can respond. Contact form submissions are delivered to us through a third-party form-processing service (Web3Forms), which transmits the message to our inbox. We use this information only to reply to you and to improve our tools, and we do not sell it or use it for marketing.

Third-party services

We keep third parties to a minimum, but the Site relies on a few: Google Fonts may be loaded to display the Site's typography, which means your browser requests font files from Google's servers; our contact form is handled by Web3Forms as described above; and the Site may be served through a hosting or content-delivery provider that processes standard technical request data (such as IP address and browser type) in order to deliver pages and protect against abuse. These providers process data under their own privacy policies.

Analytics & cookies

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the Site is used — such as how many people visit, which tools are most popular, and the general countries and referrers traffic comes from. When you first visit, analytics is turned off by default (Google Consent Mode v2); Google Analytics and its cookies load only after you choose Accept in the cookie banner, and choosing Decline keeps them off. We enable IP anonymization and do not use Google Analytics for advertising or ad personalization. Google processes this data on our behalf under its own terms. You can install Google's opt-out browser add-on to disable Google Analytics everywhere. We do not run advertising networks of our own.

Error monitoring

To keep the tools reliable, the Site may report technical details about errors that occur in your browser — such as the error message, a stack trace, the page URL, and your browser type — to a private monitoring endpoint. These reports never include the content you enter into the tools, and are used solely to diagnose and fix bugs.

Children's privacy

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices and rights

Because we don't maintain accounts or store the content you process, the main data within your control lives in your own browser, which you can clear at any time. If you've emailed us and would like us to delete the correspondence we hold, contact us using the details below and we'll do our best to help. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over personal information under applicable law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be reflected here, so please check back occasionally.
