Frequently asked questions

How do I convert binary to hex quickly?

Group the bits into nibbles of four from the right (pad the left with zeros if needed), then translate each nibble to its hex digit. 1111 1111 becomes FF.

Why is binary-to-hex so direct?

Because 16 is 2⁴, four binary digits always correspond to exactly one hex digit. No arithmetic is needed beyond a small lookup, unlike converting to decimal.

What if my bit count is not a multiple of four?

The leftmost group is simply padded with leading zeros. For example 1 0000 (five bits) is treated as 0001 0000 and becomes 10.

Is my input uploaded?

No. The conversion is performed locally in your browser.
